Statement of Need

There were over five million traffic collisions in 2020 resulting in 2.3 million injuries and 40,851 fatalities. Annually there are 2.3 million MVC injuries and 1.0 billion Annual Healthcare visits, yet injuries from MVCs represent less than half of 1% of the healthcare industry. This is easily dismissed, particularly when care for these patients requires different practice structure and workflow demand. There are numerous barriers to caring for injuries after MVCs has become a complicated process which is quite different than regular medical practice, so many Medical Doctors opt to NOT see patients with Auto Insurance as responsible payor. Learning Objectives 1. Identify the differences between standard medical care and post-MVC medical options. 2. Recognize the barriers in medical care for patient cohort where auto insurance is legally responsible party for payment. 3. Discuss over treatment of Whiplash Associated Disorder 4. Increase understanding of why many patients cannot follow up with their regular doctor after an MVC
